Bernard completed a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Politics at University of Queensland in 1986 and Bachelor of Laws with First Class Honours at Queensland University of Technology in 1992.

Prior to commencing practice at the Bar he worked as associate to Mr Justice Spender in the Federal Court and worked as a solicitor at Allens Arthur Robinson. He also completed a Bachelor of Civil Law at the University of Oxford with First Class Honours.

He was called to the Bar in 1999 and was admitted as a Queen’s Counsel in 2016.

He has a broad commercial practice covering insolvency, construction, general commercial, banking and professional negligence. He also has a particular interest in succession law.
